Impact of Water Pollution on Human Health and Environmental Sustainability
Water
is at the core of all life on Earth and exists as one of the main
components of the human body. Because water is essential to life,
addressing water pollution and sustainability issues is of great concern
to environmentalists and public health specialists alike.
Once upon a time, Elaine McKeown -- OBX resident, retired nurse, NC Aquarium volunteer -- got interested in the effects that polluted water has on human health. Fast forward to October 2015 when Elaine's pet project, a book on that broad topic, was released by IGI Global Publishing.
As
one of two editors for this book, Elaine recruited experts from around
the world to write chapters on specific aspects of water pollution and
human health. She shepherded those authors through the convoluted
process and kept encouraging them to meet their deadlines. The result
of her activities and efforts is this comprehensive look at several
important water-related issues and an exploration of some potential
solutions to the problem of water sustainability.
Join us on Wednesday, 2/10 for a lively discussion and learning
opportunity. Elaine will share her experiences and offer a sneak peak
at the entire book -- all 423 pages! Please
RSVP by responding to this message or by sending an email to obxgreendrinks@gmail.com so we know how many people will be joining us.
