April's Monthly Mingle

Our April get-together will be held on Thursday, April 14th, at 7 pm at the Black Pelican Oceanfront Cafe in the alcove.  Come on in, tell the hostess that you're joining OBX Green Drinks!

Sea-beans, or drift seeds, are seeds from tropical plants that use ocean currents as a means of dispersal.   Terri Kirby Hathaway, Marine Education Specialist for North Carolina Sea Grant, is an avid beachcomber and  regularly attends the International Sea-Bean Symposium in Cocoa Beach, FL.  She has a collection of sea-beans and information to share with the group.

Hamburger beans, sea hearts, mangrove propagules, and tropical almonds are just a few that have been found on North Carolina shores -- and there are many others found along other east coast (and Gulf coast) beaches.  Tonight, learn about these beachcombing treasures, where and when to find them, and how to identify them.
